About Trichomoniasis

Trichomoniasis is caused by Trichomonas vaginalis, an anaerobic protozoan parasite. It is one of the most common non-viral STDs worldwide. While men are frequently asymptomatic carriers experiencing minor urethral tingling, women often suffer from severe vaginal itching, irritation, and characteristic frothy discharge.

Testing Window Period

Earliest Detection 5 - 7 Days post-exposure
Optimal Window 14 - 28 Days post-exposure

Symptoms

Women: Frothy yellow-green discharge with strong odor, genital redness, burning during urination.

Men: Irritation inside the penis, mild burning after urination or ejaculation.

Sample Requirement & Preparation

Men: First-Catch Urine

Catch first 20-30 ml. Hold urine for at least 1 to 2 hours beforehand.

Women: Vaginal Swab or Urine

Vaginal swab provides superior sensitivity. Do not use vaginal douches 24 hours prior.
